Many are still confused between the difference between an air mattress and an Air Mattress Bed. Air mattresses are great in a pinch but provide minimal comfort and support and are more for portable use rather than a permanent sleep system. Air Mattress Beds not only give you the feeling of sleeping on air, but with the right materials and construction, it can be a very comfortable and supportive, permanent sleep system. Air Mattress Beds also have the unique property of allowing different comfort levels for each partner’s side of the bed. Priceless!

The idea of sleeping on an air mattress bed was first used in hospitals. Patients who were bed-ridden for extended periods of time were able to rest more comfortably, with fewer pressure points and more even support, than on a regular coil spring hospital bed. It didn’t take long before the air mattress beds made their way into the consumer market, allowing the general public an opportunity to benefit from this exciting and revolutionary technology to achieve a better night’s sleep.

With air baffles or chambers in an air mattress bed being the primary method of support, each sleeper can adjust his or her side of the bed to whatever firmness level is most comfortable for them. Why toss and turn with an uncomfortable coils and springs mattress when, with the touch of a button, move into hundreds of relaxing positions. All without creating pressure, stress or strain on your body. Touch a button again and experience a new concept in comfort, while your own personal massage system helps to relieve tired, sore muscles, and reduce everyday tension and fatigue and encourage restful sleep through relaxation.

And with air mattress beds, flipping your mattress is a chore of the past. Over time, with coil and spring mattresses a body impression in the coils will appear if you do not flip your mattress regularly, leading to shorter mattress life. Although some of the comfort materials, like foam rails, ticking and any layered foam in an airbed can take an impression just like any soft material, the air chambers will not. All this leads to years of hassle-free operation and the comfort and convenience to boot.

What to Look For:

Most air mattress beds are constructed in a similar way, using the same basic components. The difference from one manufacturer’s product to another’s is in the design and sophistication of each of these components. The reliability, durability, and quality of these components, and how these components are designed to work together are what make the difference in a top quality product. In all cases, always be sure to check the warranty, good products are usually backed up with a 15-25 year warranty. If you see 3-10 year warranties, keep shopping!

- All air mattress beds use foam rails to surround the air chambers inside the mattress cover. These rails provide the exterior support of the air mattress, giving it its shape and providing the user with the ability to sit on the edge of the bed to put shoes on, etc. The foam rails are absolutely crucial in keeping the air mattress bed corners square and the sides straight and true. Most air mattress bed manufacturers use a straight piece of foam on the side rails, with the ends butting up against each other, this is less desirable as it relies heavily on the mattress cover to provide lateral support for the internal components. — Look for contoured foam rails with concave sides that form a connection and hold the air chambers in place, and actually work in conjunction with the air chambers to keep the mattress square and true. You won’t find any instability or bulging with this type of construction.

- Air mattress beds have air chambers or baffles filled with air to provide the main source of support. Most air mattress bed manufacturers use a one piece baffled air chamber system where the air is distributed throughout the air chamber. The problem with this system is that if you like your mattress soft, you can get a “hammock” effect where your hips are below your head and feet. If you like your mattress firm, you can get a “tenting” effect, where your hips are too high. Either scenario puts too much pressure on the back, doesn’t provide the spinal alignment you need for a restorative sleep and can cause those nagging aches and pains. — Look for dual air chambers, preferably horizontal. Vertical chambers running the length of the bed can still have a “hammock” affect. The preferred horizontally constructed chambers form more naturally to your body providing even and comfortable support while helping to keep your head, neck, and spine in alignment. High quality chambers use tough materials and have a lap seam construction and dialectically sealed for stress resistance.

- All air mattress beds come equipped with a pump to get air in and out of the air chambers. This pump and the handheld control allows you to adjust the firmness level on either side of the bed and “should” have the ability to act as a control system to make adjustments. And a few nice features always help. Many air bed pumps are not that well made and have a tendency to fail at the worst times. — Look for well constructed pumps that can do the job and don’t sound like a leaf blower. Commercial grade pumps designed to last for 15,000 hours of “continuous use”, will do the job but watch for the noise factor. A linear pump means firmness levels can be achieved with a touch of a button with virtually no noise. Allowing comfort levels to be adjusted without waking your partner. Also take a good look at the hand controls, make sure there’s two, one for each of you and look to see if there’s a preset memory function. This is a convenient way to always end up where you are most comfortable.

That’s the basics of the air mattress bed, but there are a few other items that the highest quality air mattress beds have. — Look for an extra layer of “quality” base foam to provide better support and shock absorbing capabilities. Also look for a layer of memory foam on top of the air chambers in the casing or as a pillow top. Finally, you want your air mattress bed to look and feel extremely luxurious and comfortable, most high quality air mattress beds are sewn with a premium Belgian Damask ticking and use a pressure relieving jump and tack stitching quilted to one ounce of Angel Hair.

Now that you’re armed with the knowledge to shop for an air mattress bed, don’t forget to put it in the lineup when it’s time to shop for that new mattress. It’s a must try!! ================= Why Sleep On Coils and Springs When You Can Sleep On Air?

Back pain can be a serious problem that can bring relief by choosing the proper kind of mattress. Normally, back pain comes from things like bad posture, improper lifting, injury, the wrong kind of mattress and especially gravity. A mattress that offers pain relief will always provide good firm back support, as well as offering a peaceful sleep. Gravity is the main reason people look for relief of back pain. Due to the weight of the individual, their posture, the way they lift, the mattress they sleep on or a combination of any or all of these, people tend to complain of back pain, and search desperately for relief, which perhaps can be achieved by choosing a properly balanced mattress designed to meet the needs of each individual sleeper.

No conclusive studies have actually been shown to prove what kind of mattress is best for pain relief, as it would be a study that involves too many variables. For example, a husband with twice the body mass as his petite wife is obviously going to use a different kind of mattress than her. In such a case, where the husband is the one who suffers from chronic back pains, maybe by choosing a mattress more suited to his needs, rather than hers, the problem could be resolved. However, in theory, if they were to choose a firmer mattress that is properly fitted to the husbands needs, the wife would then in turn begin to suffer from a bad nights sleep. This theory alone however not the case with foam mattresses, would be a whole thesis for time and money consuming research.

However inconclusive studies may be at present, both scientific researchers and the common layman will agree on the logic of gravity. Gravity surrounds us, binds us, is in everything, a tree, a rock, a cloud, even a bird are all subject to gravitys will. The human spine is no exception. Humans walk upright, but the human head weighs itself upon the spine, and back muscles. As do the internal organs, the body cavity and arms. Hence slouching over, and the tendency to pick things up slouched over. Slouching into injury and back pain that could potentially be relieved with a properly chosen mattress that fits the users needs.

Balance is the secret to choosing the proper mattress for relieving back pain. Balance between how firm and at the same time, comfortable, a mattress is. Foam mattresses are perfect for helping with back pain problems because due to the nature of their design. If a proper layer of foam is placed on top of a firm surface, such as wood, the mattress can be as firm or soft as desired. But what makes a foam mattress firm or soft depends on the load. By calculating the load (weight of the sleeper), the needed firmness, and comfort levels to be achieved, a foam mattress can be custom designed to balance perfectly between both the firmness to relieve back pain as well as a natural conformity, to curves and body joints (such as shoulders, elbows, knees, hips etc.), that offers relaxation to muscles.

Choosing a mattress that brings relief to back pain is a personal one that must be made by the sleeper. It is the sleepers opinion that is most important in the choice of a mattress that will bring relief to back pain, both due to preference and the personal subjective experience that comes with gravity causing back pain. Balance is not just the key to the ideal amount of both relaxation bringing comfort and back pain relieving firmness when choosing a mattress, balance, is the key to perfection.

Adjustable beds, also known as Semi-Fowler beds, can be adjusted in position to suit the requirements of the user. Those who have medical conditions that require them to sleep in certain positions generally use adjustable beds. They may be also used by those who are temporarily or permanently bed-ridden to make them sleep more comfortably. Sometimes, even those without medical needs can use adjustable beds just to have a comfortable sleep.

Adjustable beds can be altered into a comfortable position as per the sleepers requirements. They are very comfortable for reading or for watching TV in bed. They are also ideal for people who have bad sleeping problems due to stress, body strain or other discomforts. As the adjustable beds can be molded according to the persons body structure, they provide utmost comfort and relaxation. Adjustable beds are also very strong and can support weights of more than 600 pounds.

Adjustable beds are made in two styles: standard or heavy-duty. Adjustable beds are comprised of two main components: the base and the mattress. There are several features to be considered while buying an adjustable bed: the size of the mattress (twin, queen, king or full) and the type of mattress (foam, latex, coil spring or air). Ordinary mattresses cannot be used on adjustable beds. The mattresses for adjustable beds are also specially designed to suit the human body. This helps to relieve strain on certain parts of the body and proper spinal alignment. They are also provided with adjustable rails on either side.

Adjustable beds come in various guises -the pocket spring mattress or the modern foam mattresses. Adjustable beds can be electronically controlled through a controller. The head, neck, shoulders, upper and lower back, hips, thighs, legs and feet can be comfortably positioned on the bed by adjusting the different parts of the bed. This can be done by the simple touch of a button.

There are several health benefits from adjustable beds. Adjustable beds ease swelling of the legs or edema and ease back pain. They relieve soreness of the body and sooth next and shoulder tension. They also offset acid reflux and nighttime heartburn. They provide relief for certain parts of the body such as the neck, the spine and the knees. Adjustable beds are especially useful for people who have degenerative spondylolisthesis, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, asthma, phlebitis, varicose veins, back pain or neck pain. They are also ideal for people who have just undergone surgery. Adjustable beds also make it easier to get in and out of bed; relieve the heart muscle to make breathing easier; soothe stomach muscles and aid in proper digestion; and are also ideal for passive back stretching, etc. Some adjustable beds also have built-in massaging motors in the automatic as well as manual modes.

There are many kinds of adjustable beds in the market, which can be chosen as per the personal requirements of the user. There is no single type of adjustable bed that is suitable for everyone. Professional medical advice can also be sought before buying an adjustable bed. The right kind of bed is all the more important for people who are bed-ridden or to those who have to remain in bed for long hours. Adjustable beds are also available for children with disabilities.

Your daily beauty sleep will not be complete if any of the following four factors namely light, noise, and temperature and of course the bed that you are sleeping on are not up to the desired level. While you may adjust the other three factors according to your desired comfort you wont be able to do that with the bed unless you have an adjustable bed. Just what you may wonder is an adjustable bed and why would you really need it when you have been sleeping on flat beds all your life. First and foremost you will need to know the ideal positions that our body is naturally accustomed to and the way we abuse it continuously both consciously and unconsciously while not only sleeping but also while sitting and performing any task.

An ideal position while sleeping or sitting is one where your body muscles are not under tension resulting in complete relaxation. This position can be achieved where the legs and the upper back are slightly on a raised level which distributes the body weight in harmony with gravity. It is here that an adjustable bed will be highly beneficial as a flat bed will not ease your body tension completely leading to tossing and turning. An adjustable bed will allow you to sleep and relax in any position that you desire with over 1000 positions to choose from for purposes ranging from sleeping, reading, watching TV, eating or for pure relaxation.

An adjustable bed comes in two basic types latex foam and Innerspring and both types offer the same comfort in different ways. An adjustable bed is highly recommended for people suffering from back pain, poor blood circulation especially in the legs and night time heart burn or acidity. All these problems can be solved with an adjustable bed which would elevate your upper body in the desired angle thus freeing you from circulation and digestion related complications as compared to a flat bed.

An adjustable bed generally comes in a steel frame with riveted joints and a bottom frame that supports the bed completely with special massaging (dual wave) motors. An adjustable bed uses the latest technology in the matter of mattresses like visco memory foam and high density foam that will make you feel as if you are sleeping on air. An adjustable bed can be lowered to as low as 15 inches suitable for children and disabled people.

An adjustable bed is available in single as well as double bed models along with manual, semi-electric and electric controls. The massage options involve different kinds of massages at different speeds with powerful but quiet motors where you can lie down and relax completely from the daily stressful experiences. An adjustable bed comes with a guarantee regarding its various components and is tested for long life and reliability. So check out an adjustable bed at the earliest and the ultimate sleeping experience is yours along with freedom from tension and stress helping you wake up refreshed each day.

If you’ve ever wondered why a bed is flat and your body isn’t, you’ve probably considered the idea of being one of the many owners of an adjustable bed. There are many advantages that come with an adjustable bed that you just can’t get with any other type of bed on the market today. With the help of a remote control, you can literally change the shape of the bed to your most desired position, as well as eliminate the pressure points while you sleep, read, watch a good movie surf, the web via your laptop or just enjoy a fantastic relaxation session.

Although an adjustable bed can be heavier than a regular bed, and maybe a little more expensive, the comfort level you can attain will definately be worth it. To some, it just doesn’t make sense that we, as people, regularly sleep on a flat surface. Our legs are curved and the human spine is also curved, so by sleeping on a flat bed, we don’t always get the proper rest we deserve, and increase the chances of waking up with aches and pains due to pressure points. You can drastically reduce these problems with a good quality memory foam mattress, and even more so with an adjustable bed armed with a latex foam mattress or viscoelastic foam mattress.

There are many companies out there offering you multiple options when it comes to a top quality adjustable bed for your home. Some examples may include names that may be familiar to you such as, Craftmatic, Simmons, Adjust-A-Bed and RoyalPedic. An Electric bed is a great way to improve the way you feel everyday, due to an excellent night’s sleep night after night for many years to come, so when you shop around for one, you want to make sure the product is durable and comes with a good warranty. You may also want to look at models with tempurature control, and a built in massager, for that extra added comfort and convenience. Think of how great it would be to have a bed that conforms to the shape of your body no matter what you are doing in bed, and provide you with a level of sleep quality and relaxation you never imagined was possible.
