Your Mattress Can Make Or Break You

Mattress No Comments »

A good night’s sleep is important and that it’s the time your body rebuild itself, and its our duty to make sure that our sleep is uninterrupted and smooth. For years many of us have always wanted better health and vitality. However, most are not aware that we are actually sleeping on top of the answer everyday. In order to get quality rest, and I stress on the term “quality rest”, one needs to have a decent mattress to sleep on every night. Ever felt that you’ve just slept one hour even after you had 4-5 hours of sleep? This is the reason why quality sleep is important. Sleeping on a lousy mattress can be disastrous and here’s why:

A lousy mattress will lead to many ailments such as backaches, neck pain and worse still, spinal problems. it’s best to buy a medium-firm mattress, because it provides us a better balance between back support and comfort. That’s because sleeping on a mattress that is too hard exerts additional pressure on the back, resulting in more back pain for people who already may have backaches.

Many people do not know this, but the number and placement of coils in the mattress determines the level of support, while the amount of padding on the mattress determines the level of comfort. Adding some padding to a hard mattress may be a good option for individuals with back pain. With the variety of mattress variety on the market, personal preference in terms of sleep comfort and back support should ultimately be the guide for those with backache and spinal problems. If you have spinal problems, you should postpone any fancy purchases like a waterbed mattress.

So when getting a new mattress, its important to know more about the placement coils and also the thickness and amount of padding in the mattress. Educate yourself more on your own needs and also the technical aspects mattresses so you can make more specific enquiries and a better purchase. Ask the sales person assisting you as many relevant questions as you can and your knowledge on the subject of mattress will also improve greatly. Thus leading to a great purchase.

Before ending my thoughts about mattresses, it is important to know a frequently ignored fact. Our health is built like a three legged stool. Sleep, diet, exercise. These three are the very essence of our physical and mental health. Without any of the above, your health is incomplete. However, the most important of all is rest. That’s if you think about it and ask yourself, which of these can you survive? No exercise for one week? No food for one week? BUT what about no sleep for one week? I’m sure you’ll cringe at the idea. This is because your sleep time is when your body repairs and you get to relax physically and mentally. Thus a suitable mattress is a must.

Mattress No Comments »

Imagine being able to have physical therapy whenever you want, even when you’re asleep? This is possible and not just for those people who have large amounts of money. This is possible if you have a magnetic mattress pad. These pads are new innovations that will provide you with the magnetic therapy that will benefit you in so many ways. These mattress pads will lie on top of your mattress and never need to be charged and they don’t ever need maintenance.

You may ask how something that doesn’t require you to do a lot of upkeep work can give you so many benefits and how these mattress pads can be distributed for such reasonable prices when they are so beneficial. These magnetic mattress pads provide you with high quality magnetic therapy while you are lying on them. This means that while you are sleeping on it each night the mattress pad is helping to alleviate the pain associated with certain diseases.

The pad is filled with powerful magnets set out in a pattern that has been determined to provide you with the utmost magnetic therapy. These magnets are covered with damask as well as a layer of foam to ensure that you do not have your night’s sleep interrupted by the pain of sleeping on hard magnets. The magnets are orientated towards bio-north and are of a powerful enough gauss to positively affect the delicate bio-environment that is your body.

The magnetic therapy that you magnetic mattress pads provide will benefit you by helping to raise the speed of blood circulation and raising the level of oxygen in the blood. This is believed to help slow the aging since it is caused by the process of oxidization. The mattress pads are also believed to help arthritis by preventing the built up of calcium deposits.

The magnetic therapy helps with pain relief because when the rate of blood circulation rises it can become more effective in flushing away the toxins in your body that are causing the pain you are experiencing. An additional benefit is that because the toxins are being flushed away more effectively the level of your health can gradually increase as your body eliminates the toxins from your body. You body can then begin to function at closer to optimal level since it is not concentrating on eliminating the constant build up of toxins in your blood stream and else where in your body.

The increase in oxygen levels in your blood can give you more energy as the more oxygenated is distributed to the tissues and muscles in your body. This can lead to enhanced mental performance and awareness as well as increased physical performance by the increasing of your energy levels. Sleeping on magnetic mattress pads can help you to get a deep, refreshing night’s sleep every night and can help you to wake up in the morning feeling energized and healthy.

Traditional Futon Beds

Mattress No Comments »

Futon is Japanese traditional furniture, basically a mattress that makes up a bed which is still commonly used today. Futons first appeared as weed-made rags in ancient Japan. A traditional futon set usually costs under 10,000 yen (around$83) sold at specialty stores called futon-Ya in Japan and other department stores.

A traditional Japanese futon set generally consists of a mattress called a shikibuton wrapped in Shikifu or sheets, a comforter called Kakebuton covered with a kakebuton cover, blanket called m?fu, and a pillow called makura. The makura is usually filled with beans, buckwheat chaff, or plastic beads. The 4 to 5 cm thick futon itself is flat, having a fabric exterior stuffed with cotton and/or synthetic batting.

In Japan, there is a variety of futons available depending on the season. For example, futon may be made of feathers, which is light and comfortable during summers. Thick and heavy futons may otherwise be used in the winter season.

Futons are designed to be laid on Tatami - a traditional Japanese flooring created from individual woven straw mats of uniform size and shape, bordered by brocade or plain black cloth, and packed with straw. Styrofoam may also be used with the recent ones.

The traditional futon, when not in use, can be folded away and stored in a closet called oshiire, which has sliding doors and is usually divided into two shelves. The futon is generally stored on the upper shelf, and since Japanese homes are typically small in size, a room may be used for multiple purposes such as functioning both as a living and dining room. The futon quite comes in quite handy when considering this since it can be easily stored away.

The Western Transformation:

The futon did not become popular in the United until after World War II. In the 1960s, handmade cotton pads were used by hippies, students and health enthusiasts as alternatives for conventional beds. The first significant transformation, about a decade later, was the introduction of convertible frames which turned the futon into a bed-cum-couch furniture.

By the 1980s, the popularity of the futon had reached its peak in the United States and other western countries, and people started buying it in large quantities. The transformation continued with the introduction of components such as innersprings, pocket springs, coil, foam and polyester mattresses, as well as electric frames with massagers. The futon had become considerably westernized towards the end of the decade that it became almost hard to recognize a Western-style futon as a “futon”.

The popularity of the futon also spread to the country of its origin, and top Japanese futon manufacturer, Maruhachi Mawata, started manufacturing futons resembling the western style in 1997. Older generation of Japanese still very much use the traditional futon but younger people prefer the comfort, style and added features of the western style. Incidentally by the year 2001, there was a 60 percent increase in the use of western style futons and beds in Japan.

Designer Crib Bedding For Your Baby

Mattress No Comments »

Having a baby is one of the most natural and exciting things to happen to a family. Many people feel that their family is not complete without children of their own and the nine months from conception to birth is filled with enthusiasm and preparation.

One of the most exciting parts of the process for parents-to-be is the creation of a nursery for the newcomer. Babies obviously require a large amount of specific equipment, such as changing mats, clothes, toys and a crib. Preparing the nursery so that everything they need is available when they come home makes the impending arrival more real for the household. Choosing the color, style and overall look of the room depends largely on the personalities of the parents but many opt for designer items to ensure that they are of high standards and do the job they were made to do well, whilst looking aesthetically pleasing.

One area which can really alter the overall look of the room is the crib itself and the bedding within. For the first few years, the crib will be the dominating piece of furniture in the room and every visitor to the home will at some point peer in at the newborn as they sleep in their crib. The baby will spend a large proportion of its time sleeping for the first weeks and months so it makes sense to ensure that this is one area which the parents are particularly happy with.

Celebrities are renowned for using the best products and manufacturers for their babies. This endorsement, whether paid or not, brings certain products to the forefront of the publics mind and many parents feel that if it is good enough for a film star, it is good enough for them and their baby. Finding the products to buy can be a different matter though, particularly if you do not live in or near to a large city. However, the Internet has made it much easier to find whatever product you are looking for and to have it shipped directly to your home.

One website I have found which specialises in designer baby-wear, furniture and bedding is found at www.babyscribsupply.com This site allows you to shop by designer if you wish so that you can easily locate a specific product if you know who made it. Alternatively, you can browse the site by product. Everything you will need for your baby and nursery is available to buy in one place and every product has a photograph to allow you to see it before you buy it.

The crib bedding section has every color and pattern imaginable for your baby. You can view the products by gender of the baby or you all at a time. As I mentioned earlier, this is possibly one of the most important purchases you will make for your childs nursery as it will be seen and used with such regularity. Once you have selected the bedding you require you can then shop by the designer if you wish to decorate the whole room with the same label, or you can choose additional products which will complement the look you have chosen.

Visco Memory Foam Mattress Guide

Mattress No Comments »

A visco memory foam mattress gets it’s name from the visco-elastic material developed for NASA in the early 1970’s in conjunction with the space program.

The astronauts in the space program were facing incredible g-forces, at take-off and re-entry, and the materials that were available, at that time, weren’t sufficient to cushion their bodies.

Of course, they weren’t looking for a memory foam mattress, they needed seating that was more like a big, overstuffed recliner.

Visco memory foam was developed from foam that had some unique characteristics, such as being open celled and able to return to their original shape and resiliency after being compressed.

You may have seen the commercial with the 30 ton steam roller smashing a mattress flat and how it slowly returns to it’s exact original shape…or maybe you’re more familiar with the picture of a hand above a mattress with the hand print still showing on it.

Both illustrations are meant to show you the slow recovery of visco memory foam.

Because the billions of cells, in a visco memory foam mattress, are open, air can slowly escape from them and pass into other cells that are adjacent.

As you lie on a visco memory foam mattress, it “melts away” from you until your body is completely and evenly supported over it’s entire surface.

That’s what has been termed by some as feeling like you’re floating in space. (Even though I love my mattress, I’ve never felt like that was a good explanation of how it feels)

A visco memory foam mattress is temperature sensitive, so it reacts to your body temperature by softening where your body is in contact with the mattress. If you have an injury, with a fever, the mattress is softer under that place on your body.

In the beginning developments of this material, it was too expensive to be used for residential consumer mattresses and pillows.

Over time, the manufacturing costs have been whittled to a point that a good memory foam mattress is as reasonably priced as a good innerspring mattress and there is no comparison in the comfort of the two.

Memory foam is now being combined with other materials to meet the needs of the vast multitude of consumers who are looking for:

a better night’s sleep

relief from back, neck or leg pain

relief from a partner’s restless movement

better circulation

a compromise to a softer feel for one person while maintaining the support the other person is used to from a firm mattress

Schedule some time to do some memory foam mattress pricing comparisons and you’ll see that you can, affordably, be sleeping on a mattress that is great for your body, health and your budget.

A New Mattress for Better Sleep

Mattress No Comments »

Many people complain that they always feel too tired despite getting plenty of sleep; little do they know that the mattress they are sleeping on could well be the culprit. Over time your mattress will become worn which can cause spring to losing their support and the bed becoming saggy and lumpy in places. Not only can this mean that you will not sleep properly but can also cause health problems as a result of pressure points. This can lead to stiffness of you neck, back, hips or shoulders. And worse yet it can cause long term back problems. Given all of this information it’s still a surprise that so few people spend good money in their mattresses.

If you do decide to invest in your health and buy a new mattress then there are several considerations and options. If your mattress is in fairly good condition but you feel you are not quite getting comfortable enough sleep then you could consider a topper mattress. This is a fairly cheap option as you will be able to keep your original mattress and place the topper mattress directly on that. Of course if your mattress is lumpy and sagging then really you should go the whole hog and get a brand new mattress.

However many people don’t give due consideration when buying new mattress. With advances in technology many people are opting for a special memory foam mattress, especially people with back conditions. Memory foam mattresses are a special material, when you lay on it your body heat and weight causes the foam to mould to your body. The result of this is your body is evenly and fully supported all over. Many chiropractors recommend memory foam mattresses including Tempur Pedic and Tri Pedic, and whilst they may not be cheap you will have to consider they last much longer than traditional coil loaded mattresses. You can get memory foam mattresses in any of the conventional sizes, which include double, queen and king sizes.

Other benefits of a memory foam mattress is that they retain heat which means it will keep you warmer at night, this could mean you could save money on heating. If you find it too hot then you will have to use a thinner blanket or duvet. If heat retention is a problem, for example if you live in a hot climate then you could consider buying a mattress that is made from natural materials as these absorb then disperse heat, rather than letting it build up, which will keep you cooler.

Of course there are still many coil loaded mattresses that can do a good job. The problem is most people buy blindly. Whenever you buy a mattress you must test the mattress out, most show rooms will allow you to lie on the mattress for an extended period of time. If you find that a little embarrassing then you could consider buying a mattress with a money back guarantee so the risk of getting a mattress that doesn’t suit you is minimized.

Luxury Bedding is More Than Just Thread Count

Mattress No Comments »

Thread count is the most widely referred to term when searching for those perfect sheets. Generally, the higher the thread count, the more costly youll find the sheets. But is thread count the real measure of luxury bedding?

Thread count is only one factor in the equation of luxury bedding. The qualities of the fabric are what put the luxury in your sheets. There are, however, two main types of fabrics and they are natural and manufactured. Luxury bedding is almost exclusively made from high-quality natural fabrics such as Egyptian cotton.

Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric. A higher count usually indicates a finer thread. It is the finer thread that gives a sheet its softer feel, unless chemical finishers are used. These chemical finishes, which are often used on cheaper sheets, will make the sheets initially appear to be silky smooth, but after a couple washings the finish will wear off. Chemical finishes are also detrimental to those who have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies. In reality thread count is mostly a measure of a sheets softness and not necessarily its quality. For example a 340 thread count sheet made with Egyptian cotton can feel as smooth as a 400 thread count sheet made with cheaper cotton. Does this mean that a low grade cotton sheet with 800 TC fabric feels twice as smooth as 400?

Not necessarily. If you have been shopping for luxury bedding you may have seen advertisements for 800 + TC sheets. This number can be misleading. These sheets achieve a super high thread count by adding multiple plies of fabric together. While these sheets are smooth, they are not as proportionally smooth as the high number would lead one to believe. The added plies increase the durability of the sheet which may be necessary if the bedding is made from low quality materials. High quality fabrics will be made with high quality fibers which are strong and tightly weaved. The best fabrics are generally going to have a thread count between 300 and 350.

Natural materials, such as Egyptian or Pima cotton, are preferred over manufactured materials for bedding. This is because cotton will allow the body to breathe while at rest. But if one prefers a silk-like feel then Lyocell is a good alternative. It is a manufactured material that is made from natural biodegradable materials.

So remember, when shopping for high quality sheets keep in mind that thread count is more an indicator of the smoothness of a sheet and not as much an indicator of quality. If a bedding set claims to have a high thread count check to see if it is made of a high quality fabric. One should seriously consider an investment in quality bedding materials such as Egyptian cotton for longevity, comfort, and especially if you have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies.

How Durable Are Air Mattresses

Mattress No Comments »

Air mattresses are a great addition to any household, whether you choose to use them as an extra bed for unexpected guests or cushion a hard ground while on a camping trip. Many air mattresses come with their own built in air pumps, allowing you to inflate them in seconds without a great deal of huffing and puffing. Furthermore, air mattresses of today are unlike their fragile, brittle ancestors that probably popped, split, or leaked immediately after use. Although the instructions on air mattresses should still be followed to prevent any problems from potentially occurring, air mattresses tend to be durable enough to hold even the most rambunctious child.

If you are choosing an air mattress for camping purposes, consider your options to ensure you choose a mattress that best suits your needs. First, look to the size of your tent to make sure that the air mattress you choose will indeed fit into the enclosure. Additionally, consider how many people will be sleeping on the air mattress and consider purchasing a double mattress instead of two twin size mattresses. Also, determine the amount of loft you want in your air mattress since there are several options on the market. Spend an extra bit of money on an air mattress to ensure the quality is high and the mattress will be durable enough for nights spent on sharp rocks or uneven ground. Furthermore, consider investing in self inflating air mats that are a great deal lighter and easier to carry than traditional blow up air mattresses.

Regardless how many beds you have in your home, purchasing an air mattress is always a good idea. Having an air mattress on hand for the holidays when everyone seems to be in town or for a child’s sleepover can make everyone’s nightand daygo easier. When looking for air mattresses that are to be used in an indoor setting, do not be afraid of spending a bit more money on a higher quality model. No one wants to unroll an air mattress and find that it has split or cracked from disuse. Furthermore, consider a model that comes with its own bed frame, since they tend to be the most durable of the bunch and will provide your guest with a bit more comfort. Additionally, less problems tend to occur with these raised air mattresses, since wayward objects can commonly puncture the rubber and cause a rip or hole in the mattress.

Whether you plan to use an air mattress indoors or outdoors, ensure that quality is a major part of your decision. However, today’s air mattresses are sturdy and durable enough to easily hold the weight of sleepers without any issues or concerns.
