Mattress Shopping 101

Mattress No Comments »

Is it time for a new bed? Is your mattress flat? Do you lie in a wallowed out pit in the middle? I know, because I did and I needed a new mattress. I went shopping and want to give you the scoop on what I found. Have you seen the ads about foam beds? They pretty much tout the fact that you are sleeping on metal springs your whole life. Which that is true, and what an innovation it was at the time. The foam beds are neat. I looked at one at the mattress store. It does just like they say on TV. The first thing that scared me off was the price. Then my friend told me they tried one. Remember; get a mattress from someone who will let you return it after you sleep on it. Anyway, they got a foam mattress. He said after you lay on it, it conforms to your body. Then, he couldn’t get out of the “mold” to roll over. He sent it back and got a regular bed.

I started looking at the sleep number beds. They are air beds with individual number settings for each person. Appears that people would get deeper sleep on these beds by allowing their own firmness setting. Your side could be softer than your spouse’s side. This looked like a great potential for a bed. In fact, my in-laws bought one and threw away their mattress. They love it. They said it reduced their back pain and they got better sleep. Did I buy one? No, and the main reason was price. I’m a cheapo.

So I went to a regular mattress store. The one with the foam bed. I started with those and looked my way down. They have inner spring mattresses for the same price as a foam bed. Still too much. So as I stepped down in price, I noticed that basically, the mattresses were the same, they just reduced the amount and quality of layering components on the top surface. Some had fewer springs, so I had to watch and make sure the spring count was still as high as possible.

So what did I finally decide on? A Simmon’s Beautyrest World Class Exceptionale Two Story Coil on Coil Beauty Rest. It was cheaper than my original 10 year old Serta and I didn’t have to flip it. And it’s enormously thick. I had to rebuild the bed to accommodate the thick mattress. The thickness came into play with all the layers of foam. In fact, it had a layer of the memory foam that the solid foam beds are made of.

You’ll have to decide which bed is right for you. I needed a high quality bed for way under $1000 and I found it. Be sure you get the entire set, as the box springs are made to fit and support the newer, heavier mattresses.

Absolutely, Buy A Superior Quality Air Mattress Bed

Mattress No Comments »

Many people don’t own an air mattress bed because they possibly believe they would never have a use for one, and you are most likely one of them. However you really should give the matter some serious consideration. If you stopped to think about it for a minute you would really be amazed at the number of times an air mattress bed would have been useful to you in the past. After all they are relatively inexpensive and would enable you to be prepared for those unexpected visitors who need to stay the night.

Lets face it, we have all had people drop in unexpectedly and it is not always easy to accommodate them at such short notice. Imagine how awkward it would be sitting up all night talking to a friend you haven’t seen for years only to have them get up and leave because they need to check into a hotel for the night. Without an air mattress bed all you would have to offer them is the floor or the couch. Friends or not, I know where I would rather sleep. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to whip out the air mattress bed, inflate it in seconds and offer your guest a more comfortable option?

Camping is supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing right? Many of us have been camping from time to time, or regularly for that matter and we all know what it is like to sleep on the ground. Not a very nice experience. Pack an air mattress bed with your camping gear and sleeping on the ground will be a thing of the past. The bed can be stowed away easily and takes up very little room when deflated. With an air mattress bed your next camping experience can be enjoyable rather than back-breaking.

On the whole, an air mattress bed is a very versatile item indeed and it can save the day when it comes to those unexpected guests. Your local sporting goods or department store will most likely sell them. Alternatively, why not consider researching them online where you are sure to find a much larger range. Do yourself a favor, buy an air mattress bed and be ready for when you next need a good quality, convenient bed.

Child Bedroom Furniture

Mattress No Comments »

Children’s Bedroom Furniture should be bought while keeping in mind the needs of the children. The furniture should be done in sprightly colors to keep the spirits of the children bright. The Bedroom Furniture should have storage space to hold the toys and belongings of the kids. The ideal furniture for children should be such that it’s fun to have around and designed to be sturdy enough to last.

You can get an entire bedroom set that is replete with beds, drawers and a mirror, all done in hues to enliven and energize the child each time he or she enters the room. There are some highly creative designs available for these young ones, such as drawers designed in the form of castles. Get bunk beds for the two of your little ones, done in the style of castles or a space shuttle or a tractor. Add another layer of creativity to the room by sprucing up the room with bedcovers, curtains and posters done in vibrant hues. You can also think of buying thematic furniture that certain companies offer. There could be themes such as sports, butterflies, sea kingdom, stars and skies, with this motif running through all the furniture. You can also consider a bed with trundles for the kids, as they lend that playroom feel to the room.

Since the child studies in the room, having a study table is a must. Do your daughter’s room in the characteristic tradition of a dollhouse in shades of pink or yellow, with a 5- or 7-piece furniture set. This would usually include a single bed, set of drawers, headboard that could also be used as a bookcase, mirror and a side table. You can also get furniture that helps give your child a creative outlet. Get a chalkboard table where your child can write what he or she wants to. Get a bench for the room, where your child could have a good time with his or her friends. Having furniture of this sort ensures that the bedroom is the favorite haunt of your child and his friends.

The process of searching for an inflatable air mattress can be a very tedious task if youre unsure of exactly what you are looking for. Following are a few things to keep in mind when doing your research. The entire process does not have to be a headache and with a little research you should have no problems finding the right inflatable air mattress for you.

The internet is always a good first place to start when doing research. You can gain a vast array of information from various sources in quite a short time. From the internet you can obtain information such as prices, specifications and details of all models of inflatable mattresses available. Many websites will also have detailed photographs showing exactly what it is you are buying. Having done your research beforehand will be of great benefit in making a quick and efficient purchase. Reviews written by other people who have already purchased an inflatable air mattress are a great way of discovering the pros and cons of each mattress before you commit to any purchase and part with your hard-earned cash.

On the other hand you may prefer face to face contact to obtain the desired information. In this case you can always visit a retail store and find a salesperson who is experienced in this matter. Researching your product thoroughly in the first instance will definitely help you to choose the most suitable inflatable air mattress for you. Research does not always have to be via the internet. If you prefer to talk to a real person you can personally visit the stores or send inquiry letters to salespersons in your local area. To ensure you purchase an inflatable air mattress that will meet your requirements for years to come, it is a good idea to find out all the options available before you buy.

Beds

This article provides useful, detailed information about Beds.

The bed is the centerpiece of any bedroom. Beds range from straw-filled to extravagant and rich. The early civilizations had beds that were beautifully decorated. Egyptians slept on couches that had legs shaped in the form of animals. These couches were covered with ivory, gold or paint. Since the Greeks used couches for both dining and sleeping, they were made to accommodate both. As time passed the beds became larger and ornamental. The nobility and the wealthy had elaborately decorated beds referred to as state beds. These beds were hung with silk, velvet or other fabrics. Beds often served as symbols of social rank and wealth.

Today, a simple frame that can support a mattress is preferred by most. A wide variety of beds are available to suit varied styles and different budgets. To decide what kind of bed fits your bedroom and budget, determine the style, design and size of the bed that you are looking for. The size of the bed should be in proportion to the size of the bedroom.

Some beds have a headboard and footboard that curve upward almost shaped like a sleigh. This bed fits well in a bedroom with a low ceiling. There are four-poster beds that have canopies that can be closed at night. There are elaborate beds made of iron or brass. Some beds have upholstered footboards and headboards. These beds are designed for comfort allowing you to sit back and read.

Some beds come equipped as two beds in one. There is a second bed attached under the main bed that can be pulled out when needed. When storage is an issue, the ideal bed has a mattress that is supported by a platform with provision for drawers and space for storage. Named for its designer, space saving \”Murphy beds\” fold into a wall unit when not in use. Other types of beds include bunk beds, air beds, water beds and beds specially designed for children.

The bed is the most important feature in a bedroom. Do your homework before choosing one. The correct size and the style can definitely transform your bedroom into a beautiful space.

Ultralight Sleeping Bags

Mattress No Comments »

Why ultralight sleeping bags? Because ultralight backpacking is only made possible by cutting the weight of the “big three;” the backpack, shelter and sleeping bag. The days of five-pound summer bags are gone - at least for those of us who prefer to go light. One Pound Ultralight Sleeping Bags

There are several one-pound ultralight sleeping bags on the market now. My own is 17 ounces. It actually weighs 19 ounces with the stuff sack, but stuff sacks aren’t always necessary. It can be stuffed directly into my pack or put in a half-ounce bread bag. It’s a down sleeping bag, and has kept me warm down to below freezing - warmer, in fact, than my four-pound bag used to keep me.

It appears fragile, and I’ve babied it over the years, but it may be tougher than I thought. I’ve used it from sea-level to 16,000 feet, in all types of weather, usually camping under a tarp, yet it still has its loft, and it appears almost new. The zipper goes only half-way down, to save weight, and it’s a mummy bag, but I’m 6′3″, 165 pounds, and I’ve always been comfortable in it.

Sleeping bags weighing around a pound are summer bags, rated down to 40 to 50 degrees fahrenheit. A quick check of the newest bags out there, though, shows that even one or two of the 0 degree bags are under three pounds now. These are down filled bags, of course, as down is still the lightest insulation for its weight.

Another big advantage of any down sleeping bag is it’s compressibility. Nothing packs smaller than down. However, a good synthetic bag is probably better than down if you are regularly getting it wet.

Several sythetic-fill sleeping bags now come close to down in their warmth-to-weight ratio. At least one summer bag, using Polarguard fill, weighs an even 16 ounces. That’s amazingly light for a synthetic bag.

Using Ultralight Sleeping Bags

Ultralight sleeping bags generally aren’t tough. The lighter the bag, the more fragile, but treat them gently, and they work fine. I’ve used mine for many years, in snow and rain, from Ecuador to California to Michigan, and it shows little wear. Baby these things, and they can last a long time.

Great Ideas for Bunk Beds, Loft Beds and Futons

Mattress No Comments »

The selection of beds and bed frames on the market can sometimes be overwhelming. Hopefully we will provide you with some great information to help you select the perfect bed arrangement for you and your family. The first step is to analyze the amount of space that you are dealing with. This will help you to narrow down your choices. If you have 4 children and only 3 bedrooms, a great alternative is bunk beds. Kids love them and they work well when space and number of rooms is a challenge. Loft beds, which are similar to bunk beds, also work well in smaller rooms. The bed is up off the floor 6 feet allowing for ample storage or work space underneath. Futons are great for the family room to use as seating by day and sleeping by night if you need room for company. Let talk a bit more about bunk beds. If you have small children sleeping in them, we highly recommend a few things. First, the beds must conform to the current safety standards which do tend to change from time to time. Make sure you buy from a bedding retailer who has been in business for some time and is experienced. Installation can be challenging so if you can’t do it yourself, hire a professional to do it for you. This same advice goes for loft beds. Because the person is sleeping off the ground at quite a height, correct installation is a must. Futons are much less complicated. Futon frames often come assembled and the hardest part will be carrying it from the truck to your family room.

Loft beds are simply beds that are raised off the ground by six feet. The space below the bed can be used as storage, desk space or whatever you may need the room for. They come in twin, full and queen sizes and you can often find them made of maple, birch or oak. They are a great idea for spare bedrooms and adults alike feel comfortable sleeping in them as opposed to bunk beds. Because they are so high, it is recommended that the mattress be 7″ or less. If not, the person in the bed may be a bit close to the ceiling. You won’t have this problem with futons though. They sit on the ground like a normal bed. They are extremely comfortable and come in a variety of woods.

Air Mattress Pumps: Factors To Consider

Mattress No Comments »

Air mattress pumps are crucial to making your air bed functional. Sometimes they are sold with the bed. Often, you’ll have to buy a separate one. This article will provide a number of tips for selecting which air mattress pump you need.

What kind of pump should I buy?

This is the first question you should ask yourself. Air mattresses have essentially two kinds of pumps: manual pumps and electric pumps. Manual pumps can be advantageous if you are camping or going somewhere that does not have available electricity. These will generally involve either hand pumps or footpads. However, these pumps will be extremely slow in filling up the air bed. If time is a factor, you should probably select an electric pump for the mattress. Many electric pumps can fill up an air bed in as little as a minute.

Does my air mattress come with a pump?

If you haven’t already purchased an air bed, research it to determine whether or not a pump is included. Many will include cheap, manual pumps and it might be worth it to upgrade so that you can use it in a hurry. Others don’t come with a pump at all, so you need to make sure that you have bought one before you head out. Travelling without an air pump will mean that your air mattress is useless.

Is the air pump useful for anything else?

Many air pumps are not simply used for air mattresses - if you’re going camping, you might be using other inflatable things besides an air bed. There are many recreational items that require an air pump: some kayaks, rafts, pool toys, etc. will need one. If you already have an air pump, you should test it out on the air mattress before you leave. If you don’t, make sure that you buy an air pump that is compatible with the other items you’ll be using.
