Teen Bedroom Furniture

Mattress No Comments »

Teen Bedroom Furniture forms an important part of the decor of the room for the teenager, as this room is where teens spend much of their time. So if you feel that your room leaves much to be desired in terms of style, then it’s time to do some refurnishing.

A teen bedroom serves different purposes, as this is a place wherein he or she not only sleeps but also entertains friends, studies and relaxes. So the furniture should be bought keeping in mind the arrangement and storage space, according to the requirements of the teenagers. Since the bedroom is also the place where one studies, it is important to have a comfortable desk chair and a table to go along with it. One of the key things that the furniture should have is storage space for CDs as well as books.

Teen Bedroom Furniture should reflect the attitude, personality and nature of the youth who owns it. Teen Bedroom Furniture, apart from beds, includes tables, dressers, benches and futons that are offered in various designs and styles. Today teenagers have the choice of choosing a basic student desk and a modified computer table that not only take care of the functional aspect but also the designs. The mantra that holds good while designing the Teen Bedroom Furniture and equipment is coupling functionality with a great sense of style.

Teen Bedroom Furniture includes dressers that have tilt-proof automatic stops. The cases are dustproof, thereby reducing your chores of dusting. They are made from high-quality, heavy-gauge, powder-coated steel that ensures resistance and durability. And with the option of changeable color drawer panels, if you grow out of color you can choose a new one. So if you want to liven up your room, jazz it up with vibrant and stylish Teen Bedroom Furniture.

How to Use Memory Foam Mattress Pads

Mattress No Comments »

Memory foam, the gel-like polyurethane material that holds impressions on its surface, is mostly associated with mattress pads. The memory foam mattress pad was first put to use in hospitals in the 1980s, where the material proved itself invaluable in reducing pressure sores for bedridden patients. In the 1990s, the memory foam mattress pad was introduced to the general public, at pretty exorbitant prices. Realizing its potential for popularity, private companies worldwide began marketing their own versions. Now, more and more people are investing in good sleep thanks to memory foam, as prices continue to decline and accommodate the growing market. The terms “memory foam mattress topper”, “memory foam topper”, “memory foam mattress pad”, and “memory foam pad” are all interchangeable. A memory foam mattress pad provides much of the comfort and support of a memory foam mattress, at a fraction of the cost. You place the mattress pad on an existing bed, preferably one with plenty of firm support.

The pad must be broken in over a period of days or weeks. Try sleeping directly on top of the foam, rather than on a sheet covering it, to speed the process of breaking it in.

Memory foam, despite the breathability of its open-celled composition, can sometimes heat up, making it somewhat uncomfortable to sleep on. Many retailers and manufacturers recognize this, and recommend trying the mattress pad with and without a top sheet. You might find a great difference in temperature. You can also try lowering your room temperature.

On the other hand, memory foam is temperature-sensitive, so the mattress might be too hard for you if your room temperature is below 65?. If this is a problem, try warming your memory foam mattress with an electric blanket before going to bed.

If you want to protect your memory foam mattress pad from spills and accidents, you can buy covers made from a blend of soft cotton and water-resistant polymers. You can often obtain a memory foam mattress cover from the same place you bought your mattress.

A Guide to Memory Foam Mattresses

Mattress No Comments »

The problem with many mattresses is that they just don’t fit your body. They are either rigid and resist the curves of your shape or they are overly soft and “give way” beneath you. The memory foam mattress was created in answer to this problem. Memory foam is a material that is designed to be “viscoelastic.” This means that it will conform to your body, but it also has the ability to return to its original shape if forced. This material molds to the body, offering support and relieving pressure where needed.

If you are shopping for a memory-foam mattress at a discount and you don’t mind shopping online, check out Overstock. Overstock sells the overstock merchandise from other companies, often at deep discounts. At the time of this writing, Overstock sells a large variety of memory foam mattresses, memory foam pillows, and memory foam topper.

Wonderful Buys manufactures a line of Visco-Elastic memory foam bedding products, including pillows, mattresses, and mattress toppers.

Sealy offers the Reflexion Latex Foam Collection, which consists of mattresses ranging from $1299-$3499 for Queen-sized. This memory foam mattress is made of natural, body-contouring foam and is available in firm, pillow top, and plush. According to the website, latex is anti-microbial, dust-mite resistant, and mildew proof, so the mattress has health advantages.

Tempur-Pedic offers an extremely popular line of memory foam mattresses and bedding. Tempur-Pedic says that their product is light and breathable and will not cause sweating and clamminess.

The Isotonic Memory Foam mattress is another popular choice. It is available at many online stores, such as the Ultimate Back Store, Healthy Foundations, Comfort House, and Everyday Comfort.

Memory foam mattresses can be bought at most major mattress stores. They can also be purchased at department stores, such as Target and WalMart. Memory foam mattresses are available in many price ranges, so make sure you comparison shop before you buy. Hopefully, you will soon be resting easy.

The Baby Crib: Your Childs First Bed

Mattress No Comments »

It is up to you as parents whether you want a baby crib to be your childs first bed or not. Some parents are proponents of co-sleeping, in which a baby sleeps in bed with the parents, sometimes up to two or more years. Other parents choose a baby crib for their child to sleep in, especially if their baby is an active sleeper or makes lots of noise at night. Remember, it is up to you–dont let anyone make you feel bad about your decision.

Baby Crib Safety

Baby cribs are safe places to sleep when parents follow some important rules. The slats of the crib must be close together to prevent your baby from getting his or her head, hands, or legs trapped. A crib mattress should fit very snugly in the crib, with no more than of space on each side. This helps prevent a baby from rolling down in the cracks between the mattress and the crib.

It is important, especially during the first four months, to avoid putting your baby to sleep on his stomach or side in the crib. There has been a decrease in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome since the common practice has been to put babies on their backs to sleep. Also, keeping overly fluffy objects out of your babys crib is a good idea. You never know when your baby might roll into such an item and accidentally smother, unable to get the object away from her face.

Popular Styles of Baby Cribs

The traditional wooden crib is the most popular. However, it varies widely in style as well as price. A standard, bare-bones crib that meets safety standards might only set you back $100, while the new convertible cribs that turn into a bed later on can go for $400-$800, depending on the model. If you want to go with something extremely impractical but kind of unique, you could purchase a round crib (which, of course, requires a special round crib mattress and limited choices of bedding that are all expensive)

Whatever kind of crib you get, make sure it is sturdy and safe. When you put your baby in a crib, you are putting your trust in that crib also.

Contemporary Bedroom Furniture: Today’s Trends

Mattress No Comments »

Contemporary bedroom trends today combine all sorts of stylistic elements to create a look that is unique. Contemporary home dcor combines the traditional with the modern, and local trends with global influences.

While contemporary design, despite its influences, remains cool, sleek, and uncluttered, this doesn’t mean that your bedroom will end up creating a cold atmosphere. Here are three hints on how to create a sleek, simple, and contemporary bedroom design with the added warmth fit for a bedroom.

Hint No. 1 First of all, choose a neutral color scheme for your walls, floors and furniture. Neutral colors are the best choices for contemporary design. Neutral colors in the bedroom produce a fresh and clean look. They also make the perfect backdrop for a favorite modern painting, which can add a splash of color. Keep in mind that contemporary bedroom trends use color only to accessorize and never as the basic design statement.

Hint No. 2 In the bedroom, it is always the bed that is the central furniture piece. This is the piece that should be carefully designed and decorated. A contemporary bedroom will demand a bold looking bed. Choose a layered look by adding black and white, or black and red sheets. If you choose a pattern, then again it should be bold, such as rich red rose duvet cover.

In a contemporary bedroom with neutral walls, bold red on a bed will add warmth and atmosphere to your bedroom. It will also brighten the room, and make it more inviting, just what you want a bedroom to be.

Hint No. 3 Keep everything else to a minimum. Simple nightstands, subtle recessed reading lights, full-length mirrors, a pair of wooden, bamboo or chrome stools, on which you may place cushions matching the duvet cover.

Contemporary bedroom furniture trends seek out the best in modern sleek style, but add a touch of warmth and comfort.

Canopy Beds

Mattress No Comments »

There is an easy and inexpensive way of adding class to any bedroom just add a canopy bed! Canopy beds may seem difficult to make or expensive to buy, but if you know how to do some improvisation and look for the best deals, you can have your very own in no time at all.

Who says you have to spend thousands of dollars to experience the luxury of a canopy? Just install curtain rods on each end of the bed, hang soft fabrics, and you already have a canopy effect. If you want a makeshift canopy that lasts longer, you can secure a short rod to the ceiling (perpendicular to the head of the bed on both sides). Hang long fabric panels (they should preferably reach the floor), and just tie the fabric back with a nice ribbon or a specially made drapery tieback.

You can also create your own crown canopy by simply cutting a half-circle of three-quarters of an inch of plywood (this is just the right thickness it’s still easily installable and yet sturdy enough). Attach fabric panels around the outer edge of the plywood. You can then install the crown canopy by either attaching it directly onto the ceiling or securing it to the walls using L-brackets.

Don’t have time to do all this handiwork? There’s an even easier version of a canopy bed and you only need hooks and fabrics to do it. Simply attach a wooden or metal ring to the ceiling above the bed’s center. Then drape long fabric panels through it, and pull both ends down to the floor on both sides of the bed. Make sure you attach the ring firmly so that it can hold the weight of fabric, though you don’t want everything falling on you while you sleep.

There are other ways to create a canopy bed effect without actually purchasing a canopy bed. Let your imagination guide you and you will never go wrong! ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Contemporary Bedroom Furniture: Planning A Bed

Mattress No Comments »

Don’t let your bed be an afterthought. Your bed will be the most prominent object in your room, so it has to go with your bedroom’s theme, color-wise, size-wise, and style-wise. A huge bed in a small room will likely look out of place, as would a four-post bed in a room with sleek modern furnishings.

Bed Sizes

The most popular bed sizes are king, queen, twin and the increasingly popular California king. A California king is narrow and long, rather than the traditional king bed’s square shape. Just make sure you have the exact dimensions of your bed before you go mattress shopping, since bed manufacturers sometimes don’t follow the standard bed sizes exactly.

Bed Styles

Don’t confuse bed sizes with bed styles. Bed styles refer to the headboard and footboard. The basis of any bed is still the mattress and frame, which only vary outwardly in terms of the sizes listed above.

* Daybed. Daybeds are twin beds. What makes them special is that they can double as couches if you position them against a wall. Being compact and versatile, daybeds are great for small spaces.

* Platform. Platform beds are elegantly simple, fitting in with just about any style of decor.

* Sleigh bed. Sleigh beds have curved headboards and foot boards that look like, well…a sleigh. There are simpler and more modern sleigh bed designs, so you can get one even if you are going for a more modern-looking room.

* Four post bed. You know this bed already: it’s the one with a post sticking up out of each corner. The posts can support a canopy, but the canopy is optional.

* Pencil post bed. Pencil post beds are like four-post beds, only the posts are tall and tapered like…well, pencils. Harking back to their heyday in the 1700s, pencil-post beds fit a room with colonial furnishings especially well.

A Guide to Waterbed Mattresses

Mattress No Comments »

If you need a new waterbed mattress, there are a variety of things you should know. For starters, waterbed mattresses come in different levels of firmness. Since even the firmest waterbed is less firm than a traditional bed, most experts recommend buying the firmest waterbed mattress that you can afford.

Let’s take a look at the different types of waterbed mattresses:

Free Flow: as its name suggests, a free flow mattress allows the water to flow freely. This makes the bed feel as though it is always gently rocking. Sleeping on a free flow waterbed mattress is much like sleeping on a boat. This type of mattress is not recommended for someone who desires support. Some people have trouble sleeping on a bed that moves freely with every toss and every turn. In addition, the free flow mattress doesn’t have any mechanism to balance it. This means that if one partner is larger or heavier than the other, the mattress will be lopsided.

Hydraulic: a hydraulic waterbed mattress is filled with tiny round vinyl coils. These coils fill with water and float just beneath the top of the mattress. This helps to regulate the movement of the water. The more coils a mattress has, the firmer it will be. In addition, the coils help to balance out the bed. This means that even if one partner is heavier than the other, they will stay on the same level.

Fiber Fill: in fiber filled waterbed mattresses, the manufacturer fills the mattress with fiber. This helps to reduce the movement of the water and to increase the firmness of the mattress. The more fiber the mattress has, the firmer it will be. Waterbed mattresses are available at many online stores, including My Waterbed Shop, All Waterbeds, Bedroom Discounters, and Simmons.

For additional waterbed mattress resources, do an Internet search for “waterbed mattress.” Also check your local bedding, mattress, and furniture stores.

How to Choose a Futon Mattress

Mattress No Comments »

From college dorms to guest rooms, teenager bedrooms to bachelor pads, futons are cool. Futons are a popular choice in small spaces. Since they can be used as a couch or a bed, they are an extremely versatile piece of furniture.

When shopping for a futon, consumers should also consider what type of futon mattress they will want. Futon mattresses are usually made of either cotton or foam, or a combination.

When buying a futon mattress, you will need to think about how the futon will be used. The answer to this question will greatly affect the type of mattress you should buy. If the futon will be used as a bed, you will need to buy the thickest futon mattress you can afford. You can save money by buying a thinner mattress, but at the cost of your comfort.

Will the futon be used as both a couch and as a bed? If so, the mattress will have to endure a lot of folding. In this case, you will need a futon mattress that is very flexible. An innerspring mattress or a cotton-polyester blend is probably a good choice. Mattresses containing foam are also good possibilities as foam is good at conforming to new shapes. Foam mattresses also give added support.

Futon mattresses are available from such well-known manufacturers as Simmons, Beautyrest, and Sealy. They can range in price from way under $100 to several hundred dollars, depending on size, brand name, construction, and materials.

Futons Store offers futon mattresses with free shipping; Overstock often sells futon mattresses at deep discounts over retail; Department stores such as Target, WalMart, and JC Penney sell futon mattresses.

It is also a good idea to buy a futon mattress cover for your futon. This will protect it from staining and the need for frequent washing. This, in turn, extends the longevity of your futon mattress. In addition, the cover adds a touch of color and style to your futon.
